The Calm Before the Storm

This has been the most wonderful and relaxing weekend.  And really, every day since the day that I went to the hospital has been pretty phenomenal.  It’s a sweet time right now.

Most mornings involve quite a bit of snuggling and relishing these last few days with just one kid.

And there is almost always a tutu involved between waking up and breakfast time.

I went to Crossfit a few times last week, which was really bittersweet because I have suspended my membership during August and September.  I have grown to love going to the gym for many reasons, but mainly because every single person that works out there is just so real and friendly.  Plus, you can’t beat the fact that some of the members swap out watching all of the kids during the workouts, so it’s essentially a really fun playdate for Poppyseed.  Every morning she asks me, “Go to the gym today?” and it will be sad to go on a little hiatus!  But like most things, it will still be there when we are ready to return.

As you can probably imagine, my workouts of late are pretty minimal.  I actually did do some regular movements such as planks, the stationary bike, rowing, and very light weight squats last week, but this week I really just stopped almost everything.  This baby is definitely scooting lower and lower in my pelvis and creating quite a bit of round ligament pain, so now there are days where even walking a mile around my neighborhood is a huge challenge.  There are quite a few pregos at the gym, and we snapped one last picture on Friday!  I can’t wait to see all of these bellies get bigger and bigger and meet Middle and Poppyseed’s future playmates.

Megan insisted I do something that looks active so that I could have a picture of myself at Crossfit at over 39 weeks pregnant.  I did exactly 5 wall balls purely for the sake of this shot.  😉  I am so NOT that hard core Crossfit chick achieving “personal records” and going all out at over 9 months pregnant!

39 weeks with Middle!

And it reminded me of this picture, taken on my due date with Poppyseed!  As you can tell I’m a big believer of squats throughout pregnancy.  I find it hilarious that I’m squatting between a saddle rack and a pile of baby gear.

Flashback to 2012 – 40 weeks pregnant with Poppyseed!

Other than that, our days seem to follow the same pattern.  We are busy with either the gym, gymnastics, or going to the pool in the mornings, but after lunch and naptime I usually just pull Poppyseed into my bed and we watch a movie together.  After that I start to feel guilty about all of the screen time, so we usually do some puzzles or read books, do something crafty (but simple) such as play with her Melissa and Doug stamps or markers, and then I start working on dinner.

I figure at this rate, she will be scrambling eggs by herself at age 3.

We finally caved and got her some pool floaties. Annnd they are amazing.

I almost always forget to pack her a dry pair of clothes when we go to the pool. Luckily she is pretty low key about that. ;)

I continued to work once or twice a week up until last week, but I still took advantage of daycare this week so that I could have some time to myself.  I got a haircut and did a few other little things like go to the chiropractor.

It may be a while before I have time for a blowout again.

My meal planning has definitely taken a nose dive as of late, but I have at least managed to get something on the table every night.  Thankfully no one in my household is very picky, as long as there is something to eat.

Oatmeal is probably growing tired of all of the salads. I seriously cannot get enough salad these days. This one is smoked salmon, goat cheese, mixed greens, and kalamata olives.

Oatmeal has been swamped at work lately, but he is being such a huge help to me when he gets home.  I think he’s finally realized how much energy Middle is sucking out of me, so I rarely have to ask him to do things for me like carry Poppyseed upstairs, give her a bath, or help me with dishes.  He’s always done those things for me if I asked him to, but now he’s just doing them without being asked.  That is definitely not going unnoticed and I try to remember to thank him.  Usually by 7:30pm we are tucking Poppyseed into bed and then both feeling pretty exhausted!

We weaned this little baby from her pacifier last week. Wah! It was harder for Lola than for Poppyseed.

Well, on Friday I arranged for Poppyseed to go to Oatmeal’s parents’ house in Sealy.  She got to play with 5 cousins, and we got to go on a date!

Madden’s is our favorite place to go for a nice meal outside of the home, so of course we went there.  Their menu is largely gluten free, and tons of their veggies are locally grown, so it’s obviously right up our alley.  I have to say, it was the BEST date!  The food was even better than usual, but the conversation was the best.  We talked about everything from our families to his work, we discussed baby names (!!!), and frankly it just seemed as if we laughed a lot.  I insisted we skip the dessert menu, claiming that I seriously could not fit one more bite of food into my belly, but then he still talked me into going to Spoons for some frozen yogurt on the way home.   We were in bed by 9:30pm.  Best.  Night.  Ever.

This weekend has been low key.  Yesterday I went to yoga, took Poppyseed for a walk in her stroller, and then we grilled steaks and made a huge salad for dinner.  Poppyseed was being a nut all afternoon, so we put her down early and rented Anchorman 2.  Yet another night of being in bed by 9pm!  Today we’ve barely left the house, but at 4 we are headed over to a friend’s house for an early dinner.

So it’s worth mentioning that every week I get Oatmeal to take the cheesy chalkboard picture, that is used solely for the purposes of this blog and Middle’s baby book.  I always feel a little dumb posing on my own, but at this point it is just something that we do and it always leads to a lot of laughs.  Such as, why is it so hard for Oatmeal to take a picture that is (1) in focus, (2) not dark or overexposed, and (3) shows the entire chalkboard and not just my, er, body parts covering part of the prop?  Seriously babe, if you’re reading this, I would have expected more of you after this many weeks of practice.  😉

This one is edited and still dark.

This one he claimed was "really good, the winner." Really? 39+ weeks & it's date ---what?"

This one he claimed was “really good, the winner.” Really honey?  Could you have maybe told me to step back about 4 inches so that we could read the sign?

Maybe our last chalk board picture, but probably not.

So, if I were to make a prediction, I think I’ll probably have the baby next weekend.  I’m due Tuesday, but I really don’t feel like anything is going to happen between now and then.  Since Poppyseed was a week overdue, I’m guessing that this baby will be past our due date as well.  So if I had to guess, just for the fun of it, I’m guessing that Middle will debut on Saturday or Sunday.  And just for fun, I’ll also guess that Middle is a boy!  I still swear on the Bible that we do not know what we are having, even after FIVE ultrasounds!  And I’ve probably felt like it’s a girl for the majority of the pregnancy, but as my final guess I’ll say team blue.

So humor me, readers, and leave me a comment on my Facebook page or this blog post.  When do you think Middle will arrive?  And do you guess boy or girl?  I can hardly wait.

My guess is this Wednesday, because then his birthday would be 8-6-14. So I also think a boy just over 8 lbs. Good luck and I hope your birth is everything you want it to be. Praying for a fast and easy delivery for you and baby.

    Hi Lola,
    I am guessing Monday August 11th at 2:30 a.m. It’s a boy!
