40 Weeks + 5 Days Pregnant with Middle

Well.  Hi.

I don’t know why I’m updating, other than just to document that I’m still here.

This morning when I woke up, I felt incredibly antsy.  I walked around the house in my bra and underwear and managed to accomplish absolutely nothing over a span of about four hours.  Oatmeal went on a 5 mile run, worked on some things in the garage, and read about 30% of a new book.  My inability to focus on anything made me feel a surge of anxiety.  At some point I found myself collapsing on top of him on the couch and crying.  I don’t remember the last time I got upset and started sobbing all over my husband, but he took it in stride.  I suppose I just needed a little release, because after that I just pretty much stood up, wiped my face, and went upstairs feeling much more like myself.

I began to feel shaky at about 1pm and decided to lie down and read a book.  It was then that Oatmeal reminded me that I hadn’t really eaten anything all day.  So I got up and made myself presentable, and we went down to C&J’s Barbeque and ate an absolutely absurd amount of brisket and cole slaw.

After that we came back home and Oatmeal’s mom, Joanie, came over with Poppyseed.  It was so good to kiss those chubby cheeks and listen to her voice, but soon after they arrived I started to feel really tired and crampy.  I snuck into my bedroom and spent the next hour or two like this.

I downloaded a free contraction timer and started to time all of these Braxton Hicks, just to see what, if anything, was going on.  I pretty much always have contractions these days, but over the past 3-4 days they have seemed to intensify here and there.  They will get somewhat painful for maybe 30-45 minutes, but right when I start to think “maybe this is it” I’ll drink some water or fall asleep and then go right back to feeling normal.   This is another huge difference between pregnancy #1 and pregnancy #2, because with Poppyseed I didn’t feel a single thing until I started having contractions that were a perfect 4 minutes apart.  I pretty much went from zero to active labor in about an hour.  This time…. not so much!

So I laid on my side and tried to relax and timed each contraction.  They last a minute or so, and they came every 10-12 minutes.  Eventually I began to think that it may be the beginning of the end, so I decided to change my pace and see what happened.  Once I had been out of bed for a few minutes and begun cooking dinner, they seemed to stop.  I decided to go to the restorative yoga class at 8pm, where I basically just laid on sand bags and pillows for an hour and managed to fall asleep twice.  I came home, made Oatmeal’s breakfast and lunch for tomorrow (he’s decided to just go ahead and go to work tomorrow since he took off work Wednesday-Friday last week), and even made a little treat for Oatmeal.

He couldn’t even wait for the chocolate topping to harden before he dug into them, but I managed to snap a picture before he ate a quarter of this container with a knife.   I’ll post the recipe below in case anyone is craving something amazing.

Please pray I have a baby soon.  Thanks.

No Bake Sunbutter Bars

  • 1 cup sunbutter
  • 1/3 cup coconut butter (I used the Artisan brand, but you can also just shred unsweetened coconut flakes in a food processor until it makes butter)
  • 3 TBSP honey
  • 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 TBSP melted coconut oil

Simply combine all of these ingredients and mix well.  Once they are combined, pour and spread evenly in a glass 8×8 baking dish.  Cover with plastic wrap and stick in the fridge until it has hardened.  Enjoy licking the bowl, which is totally awesome.

Then, once it’s cool…make the topping.

Topping Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (I use dark chocolate)
  • 1 TBSP butter (I used Kerrygold, and this is optional)
  • 2 TBSP sunflower kernels

Melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler.  (I pour an inch of water into a small pot and place a glass bowl on top since I don’t own a real double boiler.  It works just fine.)   Don’t heat it too fast or it will burn.  Once it’s melted through and creamy, spread the chocolate over the cooled bars.  Sprinkle with the sunflower seeds and pop it back into the refrigerator.  Once it’s hardened, it’s ready to eat.
