Feeling the Love at 10 Days Old

It’s 3pm, my nugget is full of milk and sleeping in his bouncer, and I have about 1 hour before I need to go pick up Poppyseed from daycare.

So I figured I’d try to spill out a blog real quick.

First and foremost, I want to post a few pictures of some really thoughtful gifts that we’ve been given in the past couple of days!  Now this does not include everything we’ve received, because some things showed up in the mail and got washed and put away pretty quickly.  But here is a shot of some of the sweet things that I am currently in the middle of organizing…

I love all of these masculine colors! It's totally different than all the pink we had two years ago.

Last weekend we were able to introduce Middle to Oatmeal’s brother’s family.  They gifted Middle with all of the clothes on the far left.  I loved seeing all of the blues, browns and grays.  They were some really great basic pieces that I know we will get lots and lots of wear this fall.  And those swim trunks – adorable!  He will definitely be wearing those next summer.

Sara and Jason also came by and brought Middle a bunch of really cute onesies.  I liked them all, but the one that really sticks out to me is that maroon one.  I already can’t wait until Middle’s first Aggie tailgate!

I was also blown away by this assortment of gifts that were given to us by our friend Gabe.  Gabe and my SIL went to college together and I have become friends with her since meeting Oatmeal.  Gabe is truly the BEST and MOST THOUGHTFUL person I’ve ever known.  I mean, when I buy a gift for a friend I pretty much just shop around until I find something cute and then stuff it into a gift bag.  I do put a lot of thought into gifts and try to find something appropriate and adorable, but that’s about it.  And then there is Gabe.  Let me just show you the stash that she brought over last weekend, because it will blow you away.

Customized jacket, hat, "busy bag," and burp cloths. Woah. Just woah.

So let’s start with the burp cloths.  I absolutely LOVE these.

I asked her how long it takes to make one of these cloths and she goes, "Oh one of those only takes like thirty minutes." Only thirty minutes?!

She gave us a few of these clothes when Poppyseed was born and they were my favorite things!  Poppyseed was quite the spitter, so let’s just say they got plenty of use.  I’m interested to see if Middle follows the same path and these bad boys get a lot of use, or if he is a little more clean and they get to be more decorative!

Look really closely at this horse. Now look even closer. Do you see it? The name John is actually in the horse!

And now let’s move on to this adorable jacket and hat.  I can already envision Middle going to his first roping this fall wearing this jacket, a pair of jeans, baby cowboy boots, and the hat.  And you should feel how soft it is – I seriously want an adult version!

I love the buttons.

I love the buttons and front closure.  And the color is just so pretty… the perfect little boy blue.

This horse was also part of the package, and I am pretty sure it was intended for Middle, but Poppyseed has already claimed him and is currently snuggling in bed with it now. ;)

And finally, there was the busy bag.  The busy bag was a bag (see the photo above) that was basically stuffed with every type of coloring book, crayons, sticker book, puzzle, game and even a few snacks.  I have been slowly pulling out one thing at a time to entertain Poppyseed during those times that I really just need her to sit and stay still while I nurse Middle.  My favorite item of all from the busy bag is this game.  It’s basically just a pencil game that she glued shut after filling with rice, small toys, and pictures.  There is a key that is attached to the bag with different pictures and toys, and the object is to find each item or picture.  She thinks it’s so fun to shake the bag around until she finds Mommy or Granddaddy or even her horse, Rainy!

I Spy Game. This has already kept her busy for at least a half hour.

Gabe even included a Starbucks gift card for me (she cuts to the core of me!) and a few fruit snacks for Poppyseed.  So, wow, just wow.

It doesn’t end there.  Sara and Jason drove up this Tuesday, brought us a steak dinner, and basically continued the streak of spoiling everyone in my family.

It was hilarious when Poppyseed spotted the huge horse toy that Sara and Jason brought over. It was in a big gift bag but the head was sticking out. When she spotted it she just kept saying "WOAH!" over and over again until she understood that she could open it.

One of the most thoughtful things that our friends and family has done for us is to play with Poppyseed and make her feel special.  I don’t think she has felt even one ounce of jealousy toward her new baby sibling.  She has been so occupied with toys and visits from friends that she has probably enjoyed herself just as much as we have.

Poppyseed has definitely accumulated her very own stash of toys, clothes, and books since Middle was born.

So, we have definitely felt the love around here.  And honestly, it’s really not about the gifts, though I did want to mention some of them since they are so thoughtful.  It’s really just amazing to have so many friends and family in our lives who go out of their way to show how much they care.  Each of the visits and cards and gifts has made me feel very supported – and a mama with a newborn baby really needs that.  It’s amazing to have a brand new baby and I actually really do enjoy all of the tasks that come with it – diaper changes and around the clock feedings and everything else.  But when I get a package in the mail, phone call, or visit from someone that we know, it just helps to revive and perk me up a little bit.  So thank you so much to everyone who has touched base in the last 10 days.

A few more pictures of our life as of late…

There was a day this week where I managed to make it until 5:30pm before using any electronic devices to keep Poppyseed occupied. And then there was yesterday, where I had to turn on Finding Nemo by 8am.

I'd estimate that Middle has only spent about 4 minutes in the cosleeper. But at least I got one picture.

Well there is no telling how many typos there are in this post, but I’m too tired to proofread.  This is our life of late…. and now it’s time to feed a baby.  For the 11th time today.  🙂
