Happy 3rd Birthday, Poppyseed – From Dad

My Big 3 year old,

Each year passes by faster than the last.  Each year I think that it’s going to be my favorite age for you, but they just keep getting better.  I know that daddies are supposed to treat their little girls in a special way, but I can’t see how the other daddies can possibly love their little girls as much as I love you.

I’ll try not to get too carried away with this so I’ll keep it short.  I love your independence.  It makes me happy when I see you playing by yourself and dreaming up fun games to play or stories to tell.  It makes me smile when I act like I’m going to do something by myself on the weekend but I secretly know that you are fixing to ask me if you can help.  You think you can read but all you do is memorize the book and that’s good enough for me.  You know all the horses by name and you name all of your stuffed animals after our real horses.  I like it how you call Johnny and Mommy “Fuzzy” and even though you can be stubborn at times, I like to see you push back.  We don’t expect you to be a little robot.

You still love gymnastics, and I’m going to teach you how to swim like a fish this summer.  You are already a hard little worker and you love to help Mommy clean.  You’re going to be a great big sister to Johnny Boy, and I’m pretty sure he loves you more than he does me and your momma.  By the way, you think it’s really funny to call us “mom” and “dad” now because you hear me say that to my parents (instead of mommy and daddy).

My brain is always working on trying to think of how I can set you up in this world without any cares or worries, but I’m going to show you how to take care of yourself.  Sometimes I wish this age would last forever but I also really love to see you grow up.  We have a very happy family right now and I wouldn’t change it for the world.  When you were born my heart got bigger.  Let’s see how much fun we can have together this year.

Happy Birthday,

Your Dad

  1. I’m talking. THE sweetest ever. I can’t see how the other daddies can possibly love their little girls as much as I love you…and then that whole last paragraph. Man…. Oatmeal, nobody should believe the lies Lola tells about you. I think you and your secret Instagram account are just a big ole softy with a heart of gold.

  2. Also, why does V look 15 in that last picture?
