The Trishas first offical music video!

I’m so excited for my SIL, Jamie Wilson.  Jamie is Oatmeal’s little sister, the youngest of the Griffin clan.  She (like the rest of her siblings) went to A&M, and while in college she bought a guitar and starting teaching herself to play it.  She wrote some songs and mustered the courage to try out a few open mic nights in town.  She sort of fell into a musical crowd, ended up getting asked to be in a band called the Gougers, and spent the better part of the 2000’s getting better and better at performing, songwriting, and playing various instruments.  Along the way she graduated from A&M, married a pretty awesome guy named Roy, and moved to itty-bitty Yancey, Texas.

Eventually she and Roy started thinking about having a baby.  By that time her band was traveling all over not only Texas, but various other states as well.  It was a good time for her to transition, and she decided to go it alone for a while.  She had worked up some good songs and ended up recording her very own EP, and it’s called “Dirty Blond Hair.”  You can actually find it on iTunes under her name, Jamie Wilson.

Oh, and at some point she got knocked up, too.  By her husband… duh.

Somewhere in the middle of all of this music-and-baby-making process, she ended up in another band.  But…not just any band.  A chick band.  There are 4 girls (Jamie, Savannah, Liz, and Kelley) and they actually ALL sing and play instruments.  So naturally, they started performing and playing all over the place, starting out in Texas and then reaching all over the states. They named themselves the Trishas.  I dunno.  But they did, and I like it.

Meanwhile, Jamie’s pregnancy continued and her baby bump got so pronounced that she had to get Roy to lengthen her guitar strap.  But she never stopped, whether she was having first trimester nausea, or third trimester Braxton-Hicks.  She traveled, she performed, and she incubated that baby.  She and the Trishas recorded their own little EP, which they nicknamed their mini-album.  It’s called “They Call Us the Trishas” and is also on iTunes. Right about the time that the mini-album was ready, Jamie had her wee one, a daughter.  The Trishas chilled out for about 6 weeks so that she could enjoy a maternity leave.

After that maternity leave, they hit the road again, this time with baby girl in tow.  They played in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and more.  That baby had been to more states by the time she was 12 months old than my husband had been to when he was 21 years old.

Ever since then, the Trishas have continued to take off.  They were signed by a record label up in Nashville, and they’ve actually been songwriting and recording their first full album, due in 2012.  It’s been a lot of fun going to so many of their shows and watching them evolve from having about 45 minutes worth of music to several hours worth.

And again, ALL FOUR OF THEM can sing.  And ALL FOUR OF THEM can write songs.  And ALL FOUR OF THEM can play an instrument.

Now, I don’t really know why they aren’t singing or playing instruments in their music video.  But if I were to guess, I’d bet it has something to do with them just wanting to be different.  We are conditioned to turning on MTV or CMT to see a musician facing the camera, playing a guitar and lip-syncing.  I bet that The Trishas just decided that wasn’t their style.  So, if you want proof that they ALL sing, go check out and type “The Trishas” into their search bar.

Anyhoo.  Enjoy the video. For the record, Jamie is the one with the really long dirty blond hair.  She is wearing a long sleeved light blue shirt in several scenes.
